Boy Scout Troop 1100 of Burke, Virginia completed a clean up at the Simpson Cemetery in Clifton in September 2010. Brush was cleared and removed, markers were cleaned, and the wrought iron fence was painted. While raking, the scouts discovered “new” markers. Each one was carefully flagged. Outside of the cemetery known area and down the hill a broken marker was found. It is believed that the marker might have been moved from the cemetery, dropped and broken. Another possible grave marker was found broken in pieces in the roots of a large tree. It is possible a visitor in the past planted a sapling at the head of a grave. With no records of burials available, one will never know. Everything was photographed to help document the experience and the findings.
