A chance meeting of a member of the Springfield Art Guild and a member of the Fairfax Cemetery Preservation Association (FCCPA) resulted in the idea of an art show based on the outdoor museums – cemeteries. The FCCPA member was looking for a special way to heighten the public’s interest in and respect for cemeteries, during the first Fairfax County Cemetery Preservation Month of October 2011.

It was a multi-media, juried show, with one requirement: the artist must identify which cemetery inspired the art work. The juror felt that the title of the show lent itself to the whimsy and seriousness of cemeteries. The variety of the art work was amazing and the talent exceptional.
